Mitosis is the production of body cells, also called somatic cells. Somatic cells are every cell in the body except sex cells. During mitosis, each cell will divide one time, producing two daughter cells. Those two daughter cells have the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell form which is came. For example, if a parent cell begins with 46 chromosomes, each of the two resulting daughter cells will have 46 chromosomes
Meisosis, on the other hand, is sometimes referred to as reduction division because the chromosome number is reduced by half. For example, if the parent cell begins with 46 chromosomes, the resulting daughter cells will end up with 23 chromosomes each. During meiosis, the cell will divide twice, resulting in four daughter cells.
