The Cell Membrane is one of the most important parts of a cell. The membrane maintains the overall health of the cell by controlling what goes in and out of the cell. The membrane is said to be selectively permeable, which means for example, it 'keeps the good stuff in' and the 'bad stuff out'. In that sense, the cell maintains homeostasis.
Transport involves both active and passive transport.
